Arrest made in Beaufort West on drug-related charges

Central Karoo - Western Cape: Police in the Central Karoo K9 Unit seized a significant quantity of khat during a routine vehicle checkpoint in Beaufort West on Sunday. The discovery was part of an operation targeting drug transportation along the N1.

Acting on information that a suspect was transporting drugs between Gauteng and the Western Cape, officers set up a stop-and-search operation at the weighbridge. At approximately 07:20, they intercepted a suspicious passenger bus and conducted a thorough search of the luggage compartment.

Among the bags, police found parcels hidden within the luggage. Upon closer inspection, they opened the parcels to reveal 6,030 units of khat. Questioning the bus passengers led officers to identify a 46-year-old man as the alleged owner of the goods. He was promptly arrested for dealing in drugs.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Beaufort West Magistrates’ Court to face the drug-related charge.
