Heavy sentence for child trafficker
Nyantumba smuggled a six-year-old boy from Mozambique to South Africa and exploited the child by forcing him to work for her.
CAROLINA - Judith Nyantumba (57) was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment in the Carolina Regional Court on Thursday July 8, for human trafficking.
In May 2018 Nyantumba smuggled a six-year-old boy from Mozambique to South Africa and exploited the child by forcing him to work for her without compensation. The Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit launched an investigation after the case was reported and ensured that the suspect was swiftly brought to book.
The Provincial Head for the Directorate For Priority Crime Investigation, Maj Gen Zodwa Mokoena, applauded both the investigating and prosecuting teams for ensuring the speedy finalization of the matter. She urged the public to report incidents relating to the exploitation of children to law-enforcement agencies immediately.
