Illicit tobacco worth over R250,000 seized in Bellville

Western Cape: On Wednesday, at approximately 09:30, an integrated operation in Bellville CBD led to the arrest of two foreign nationals, aged 24 and 44. They are being detained at Bellville SAPS.

This followed a search of multiple shops as part of a crackdown on illegal trade, during which 5,861 illicit tobacco products valued at R250,135 were seized. The Western Cape Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team, in collaboration with the Provincial Anti-Economic Crimes Task Team and brand protectors from Micor Investigation Services, took part in the operation.

Once charged, the suspects are expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court under the Tobacco Products Control Act of 1993.
