Police apprehend suspects for illegal possession of firearms

Western Cape: The Western Cape police have successfully apprehended suspects involved in illegal firearm possession, a persistent concern in the region.

On Friday evening, as part of Operation Shanela, officers were conducting routine stop and search operations in Tafelsig, Mitchell's Plain, when they encountered a man exhibiting suspicious behaviour at the sight of police vehicles. Acting on their instincts, the officers searched the individual and discovered a .38 Special revolver along with ammunition in his possession. They promptly arrested him on charges of illegal firearm possession.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, Somerset West police responded to reports of an armed individual in Naaulands Street, Riemvasmaak. Officers located and apprehended the suspect upon arrival, discovering a 9mm pistol and ammunition in his backpack. Officers also took him into custody for illegal firearm possession.

On Monday, both suspects will appear in Mitchell's Plain and Somerset West Magistrates' courts, respectively, to answer to charges related to their alleged crimes.
