MPUMALANGA – Skhumbuzo Asquith Mohlaba (45), was temporarily released on a warning in the Acornhoek Magistrate’s Court today after being arrested by members of the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation Unit on Tuesday for allegedly practising as an optometrist without a valid operating license.

Mohlala continued to render services to the community of Acornhoek and surrounding areas despite the fact that his practising license had expired on November 2, 2018. This is a contravention of the Health Professions Council of South Africa Act (HPCSA).

The investigation into Mohlala’s activities also revealed that he had - at a fee - apparently issued several false eye-test reports to unqualified applicants for driving and learner’s licenses. The case was postponed to August 28, pending further investigation.
