Western Cape: A 23-year-old suspect wanted in connection with an attempted murder case was arrested in Delft on Wednesday during a police tracing operation that also led to the discovery of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

According to police spokesperson Sgt Wesley Twigg, members of Operation Prosper and Samora Machel detectives conducted a tracing operation in the Delft area in search of a suspect “wanted in an attempted murder case which occurred in Samora Machel”. Police searched premises in Hurricane Street, Delft, where they found the suspect.

A further search of the premises led to the discovery of a .38 Special revolver and ammunition hidden inside the house. The 23-year-old faces charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

In an unrelated matter, members of Operation Proper arrested three suspects, aged 53, 25 and 24, in Saint Elias Avenue, Valhalla Park, where they were found stripping a stolen vehicle. The three face charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

In yet another operation, members of Operation Prosper deployed in Khayelitsha searched premises in the Enkanini informal settlement, where they arrested a 26-year-old man. Police found 100 small packets containing dagga, 50 dagga cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of cash inside the dwelling. The 26-year-old faces a charge of dealing in dagga.

Once charged, the five suspects are expected to make their respective appearances in the Bellville, Bishop Lavis and Khayelitsha magistrates’ courts.
