Barbertonian remembers John Khoza

Read previous article here.

Not much has been written about the man, John Khoza, who died alongside his employer, Luke von Johnston on Tuesday, October 24. Apart from his name and approximate age, Africa InTouch News could to date not manage to find out anything more about him.
We have just received a letter from Astrid Christianson of Barberton Tourism. She has known Khoza and his family for many years.

“I feel very guilty that I have not put pen to paper, so here is what I know about John and his wife Lilly.

John has been on the farm as far back to the days when Luke’s dad was still alive. When I worked on the farm with them it was with such warmth and love and comradeship. Working for a common goal. To look after each other and to protect nature.

John and Lilly have several children that are now adults, but at the time they used to attend Greenstone school in Kaapmuiden.  I still have some of the school reports of the little ones.

I just can’t for the life of me understand that a man in his seventies should have to be taken away from us all in such a brutal way.  I trust that yes the law will take its course. But  also just need to say, as much as we solute Luke and his life, John you too were a star.

Many thanks for all the years you and Fabia took care of all the visitors and friends that passed through those gates, for the love that you always showed. I salute you too. Rest in Peace. My sincerest condolences go out to the family.

Warm and painful,
Astrid Christianson.”
